Hashhouse Harriers...in their smalls!

THE people of New Lanark were recently greeted by an unusual sight — 60 sweaty male and female runners wearing bra and pants over their clothes!

Known as the Hashhouse Harriers, the colourful group donned their smalls for a fun weekend which included six-mile runs from from both Strathaven Brewery and New Lanark Hostel.

Organiser and participant Audrey Docherty said: "We are drinkers with a running problem and can be a bit outrageous at times! This was the 14th run we've done since being founded five years ago.

"The runs highlight the fact that, in the current financial climate, our breweries need support to survive."

After getting a bus to Strathaven Brewery on the Saturday, the Hashhouse Harriers drank four kegs of beer between them before running back to New Lanark.
