Another great day of point-to-point horse racing at Overton Farm
The Dumfriesshire and Stewartry Hunt Point to Point Overton Farm Crossford 12/2/12
WITH a big freeze continuing to grip central Europe last weekend and temperatures falling as low as -12C in England, it seemed incredible that Sunday’s point-to-point horse racing at Crossford’s Overton Farm could again be held in dry, relatively mild conditions.
Farm owner and event organiser Willie Young reckoned that over 2000 people came through the gates to enjoy seven races over fences, from two and a half to three miles long, at the Dumfriesshire and Stewartry Hunt meeting.
Willie said: “It was unbelievable that we got good weather again. My letter to the Big Man obviously worked!
“A lot of places around Europe have been absolutely frozen, with Saturday’s France v Ireland rugby international even being postponed due to a frozen pitch.
“Our point-to-point meeting was the only one on in the UK, so we were extremely lucky again. Our attendance was slightly up on the same meeting last year, which I was delighted with.”
