IT’S now less than six weeks until the Gazette’s eagerly awaited Youth Football Awards night at Carluke Masonic Hall.

And we can reveal that prizes will be presented by stars including former SPL supremo Lex Gold, who as a boy captained Lanark Grammar to a sensational Scottish Secondary Schools Football Shield triumph way back in 1959.

“This awards ceremony will be fantastic,” said Lanark-born Lex (73), who lives in Braidwood. “These kids will remember it for the rest of their lives.”

Ticket sales for our awards bash on Friday, May 16 – at which trophies are kindly being supplied by McKellars of Scotland – are going extremely well with over 110 briefs having already been shifted.

Thanks go to event sponsors Carluke Rotary Club, Ramsay of Carluke and Councillor Pat Lee.
