LANARK United will play their football in the Central League Division Two next season after losing their last two games against Blantyre Vics and Benburb.

John Brogan’s men went down 1-0 to Blantyre last Wednesday before being defeated 2-1 by the Bens on Saturday.

United secretary Tam Anderson acknowledged that while the club is disappointed to go down to the Second Division for the first time since 2004, club officials are confident of making a strong promotion bid next season.

Indeed manager John Brogan has already re-signed several players and has his eye on a number of new players who will strengthen the squad.

Meanwhile, Lesmahagow’s promotion push if now over after they were held to a 0-0 draw against Vale of Clyde.

Missed chances was the order of the day with John McStay, Johnny Logan and Jack Currie all missing gilt edged chances when it looked easier to score.

There was also heartache for Carluke Hearts AFC when they went down 3-2 to Chapelhall AFC in the Patersons League Cup Final held at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium on Friday evening.
