THE 103 locals who took part in Swimathon Weekend 2012 at Lanark Lifestyles earlier this year have raised a magnificent amount of £7487.40 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief.

This has contributed to the fantastic fundraising total of over £2.3million that Swimathon Weekend has raised so far this year.

Anne Hamilton, recreation manager for South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, said: “I’m thrilled we managed to raise so much money.

“It was fantastic for us to support something locally that was being done on a national scale.

“It was great to see the customers get so heavily involved.”

Lanark Lifestyles was one of over 645 pools taking part nationwide in the world’s largest fundraising swim.

Over 26,000 people of all ages and abilities throughout the UK swam their way through individual and team challenges, ranging from distances of a mile to 5k.
