KIRKMUIRHILL’S Jason Young has set a jetski average speed world record of 65.85mph on Lake Windermere, Cumbria.

Jason (23) achieved the sensational feat near the scene of a 1967 tragedy, when English speed record breaker Donald Campbell died instantly after his boat was catapulted 50ft into the air before hitting the water and immediately disintegrating.

“Donald actually beat his own water world record by reaching 320mph on nearby Coniston Water that day,” said Jason’s dad Will.
