GAZETTE Sport this week officially ‘kicks off’ the countdown to an eagerly anticipated awards ceremony honouring Clydesdale’s youth football clubs.

Prizes will be handed out to the youngsters voted top players at around 10 clubs from this area, and another prize will go to the coach voted this area’s best by our judging panel.

Carluke Masonic Hall will be the venue for the inaugural bash, which will start at 7pm for 7.30pm sharp on Friday, May 16.

Clydesdale Sports Council stalwart Millar Stoddart and Gazette reporter Craig Goldthorp will be on stage to host an event which will see prizes handed out by special guest stars.

And compere Millar can’t wait for the big night.

He said: “I think this awards ceremony is a great idea. A lot of these clubs are providing a great benefit to the local community. They’re not simply doing it for the glory.”

Trophies will be provided by Lanark jeweller McKellars,
