YOU don’t need a Tardis to travel back in time to the 1930s – just the inspiration and willpower to bring back to life a glorious name from our area’s sporting past.
A very special event was held at Douglas Primary School on Saturday, the first Open Day by the Glenbuck Football Academy.
The youth soccer ‘nursery’ was inspired by the example of the legendary pre-war Cherrypickers team that gave the world the Liverpool FC icon Bill Shankly.
Explained Academy organiser Robert Gillan: “Glenbuck might be just over the Ayrshire border a few miles from here but that side always had strong Douglas connections.
“I thought it would be a good idea to create a youth football academy here to keep the Glenbuck name alive.”
