BIGGAR Rugby Club head coach Gavin Blackburn feels that the club’s new academy illustrates the current “vibrant” feel at Hartreemill.

Gavin has revealed that 22 promising young players aged from 15 to senior level have been chosen for the innovative scheme after impressing at two selection days which featured skill evaluation and interviews.

“It is massive for us to have this academy,” he said.

“Everybody who applied got the chance to come and show what they could do.

“Those picked for the academy will be involved in two rugby sessions a week, playing matches for teams in their age group on Sundays.

“Even some of the candidates who were unsuccessful are people we will keep an eye on and develop.”
