NEWLY-crowned South Lanarkshire Sports Awards champion Pamela McNicol has quite literally toughed it out to become a winner.

Athletics ace Pamela (15), of Carluke, landed the Junior Female prize at last Wednesday’s ceremony in Hamilton Town House, where she was interviewed by compere John Morrison after receiving her prize from Provost Eileen Logan.

Pamela said: “I train four or five times a week and it is tough; very hard.

“I would like to go as far as possible in athletics.

“This year I’m aiming to make an impact at the UK School Games. I just hope that I’m picked for that.”

During a phenomenal 2013 season, Pamela won the 60m hurdles at the Scottish Schools under-15 competition and the pentathlon at the Scottish National under-15 indoor event.

Competing in the under-17 section at the Scottish Schools competition, she won the pentathlon and finished second in both the 300m hurdles and 80m hurdles.
