AN emotional tribute has been paid to late Carluke Rovers legend Clara Kay by the lifelong friend who read her eulogy at Saturday’s service and tree planting in Clara’s memory.

South Lanarkshire Provost Eileen Logan was speaking in the wake of Saturday’s moving ceremony on land near Rovers’ John Cumming Stadium home in Carnwath Road.

“There was not a bad bone in Clara’s body,” Eileen said.

“She was never anything except nice; a very thoughtful person who always took time out to help elderly or vulnerable people.

“I don’t think Clara would have been embarrassed by the ceremony in her memory, but she would have wondered what all the fuss was about because she never liked the limelight.”

Clara, who died aged 75 in June 2011, was credited with keeping Rovers alive during a 65-year association in which she took the gate money at the former Loch Park Stadium, donated her own money, and was secretary and kit cleaner.
