Carluke now has its very own answer to Kung Fu legend Bruce Lee!

That man is Richard Wonnacott, whose classes in the town’s Castlehill Industrial Estate are proving hugely popular for people wanting to learn the martial art made famous by the San Francisco-born action movie star who died at age 32 back in 1973.

“The way I teach is certainly not airy-fairy,” said plasterer Richard (41), who is originally from Glynneath in South Wales but now living with his family in Carluke.

“It is straight to the point, no-nonsense stuff.

“I’ve been doing this for 16 years and I’m improving all the time.

“But I must be honest and say that it would take me 40 years to get anywhere near the level of Bruce Lee.

“He was a hero of mine and the reason I got into martial arts.

“I loved his films. I wanted to be able to kick the light bulbs out like him. I never did it, but I’m still trying!”
