Biggar Rugby Club have been rocked by the resignation of head coach Gavin Blackburn.

After Biggar’s heavy 49-5 defeat at Aberdeenshire on Saturday, club president Alistair Stewart stated: “Gavin revealed to the players after the game that he would be standing down.

“His decision was not influenced by Biggar’s performance but is down to family pressures and an increase in his work commitments.”

Gavin, who took over in May 2014, oversaw Biggar’s relegation in season 2014-2015. He also works as an SRU development officer with Garnock Rugby Club.

Assistant coaches Murray Thomson, Ali Browning and Andrew Cairns will coach Biggar until the end of the season.
