ALTHOUGH it started over a quarter of a century ago, this year’s annual Wallace Day Parade through Lanark was a unique one in the history of the event.

For the first time ever a directly-elected Nationalist Clydesdale Member of the Scottish Parliament made the address at the end of the parade.

The short ceremony takes place at the reputed site of the Braveheart’s Lanark home at the head of the Castlegate, on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of his execution in 1305.
