Saturday 31st March 2012. Armed Police Officers seal off a road and surround a house in Milledge, Carluke, following rumours of a shooting.

A GUNMAN caused chaos in Carluke on Saturday night when he allegedly threatened staff at an Indian takeaway.

Thankfully, no-one was injured in the incident.

Staff at Rodeos refused to speak to the Gazette this week, apart from telling us that staff were uninjured.

However, the police tried to calm public fears in light of the second firearms incident in the town since the turn of the year.

Inspector Scott Jones told the Gazette that, despite their close proximity, these incidents were a rarity.

He said: “We understand the public’s concern about this type of incident but this is not indicative of an upward trend.

“This was a serious incident but we do not think that gun crime is becoming more prevalent in Clydesdale.

“These incidents could have happened at any time and are not a trend.”
