GAZETTE readers should note that from next Wednesday, October 1, UK drivers will no longer have to display a paper tax disc in their vehicles.

Governing body the DVLA has explained that the benefits of paper tax discs have become redundant over time as it and the police rely on an electronic vehicle register to check if a vehicle is taxed.

Police Scotland PC Dale Ketchen, who is based at Lanark Police Station, said: “The online system for checking tax discs is far better.”
