DESPITE widespread fears to the contrary, Lanark High Street is to be spared weeks of closure due to the new power cabling being installed.

Local traders have already held an emergency meeting about the impact the two week closure of Kirkfieldbank Brae for cabling works had on their sales figures earlier this year.

Some predicted that worse was to come as ScottishPower linked up the cabling from Steele’s Cross to Bannatyne Street, completing the route of the new cabling from Stonebyres Power Station to a new sub-station at Whitelees Road.
