Nineteen-year-old boy dies in Blackwood crash

A young man has died and three people are injured following a road traffic crash near Blackwood yesterday evening.

Around 6.15pm on Friday April 1, a Seat Ibiza car and Nissan Micra car collided on the B7078 Carlisle Road, approximately one mile north of Blackwood.

Emergency services attended however the 19-year-old passenger of the Seat car died at the scene.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Seat was taken to Wishaw General Hospital and hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

The 55-year-old male driver of the Nissan car is also being treated at Wishaw General Hospital where staff describe his condition as stable. His 5-year-old female passenger is currently being treated for serious injuries in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where hospital staff describe her condition as serious.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Officers based at the Divisional Road Policing Department at Motherwell would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this crash and they can be contacted via telephone 101.
