A NEW community initiative aimed at improving broadband services to nine Upperward villages has been met with huge approval from locals.

The campaign by the B4GAL Community Broadband Group would see super fast broadband being installed in Abington, Crawford, Crawfordjohn, Elvanfoot, Lamington, Leadhills, Roberton, Wanlockhead and Wiston.

The groups’ most recent meeting, held in Abington Hall, was well attended by locals and campaigners who hope superfast fibre optic broadband will be delivered to all homes in the Glencaple and Lowther area by the end of the year.

The plan is the first of its kind in Scotland.
