DESPITE all the arguments over oil and windpower, one of Scotland’s most ancient fuel sources is shortly to become the centre of attention again in a remote corner of Clydesdale.

The news that the government’s Scottish Natural Heritage agency is awarding a £6345 grant towards the £11,000 cost of restoring a redundant peat bog near Drumclog has been warmly welcomed by the constituency’s SNP MSP Aileen Campbell.

Local company QTS Group is planning to restore the 75-acre bog which had previously been drained by local farmers, making it a less attractive environment for wildlife and plants.

Commenting, Aileen said: “I’m really pleased to see QTS Group being awarded the grant funding from Scottish Natural Heritage to restore the bog site in Drumclog.”
