Riverside Bar and Restaurant up for sale

THE Riverside Bar and Restaurant owner is now selling the business... because he's fed up with losing his chefs.

The last straw for Andy Boyle (32) was when Paul O'Malley quit his post after just six months to move to a top Glasgow restaurant.

Paul was the third Riverside chef to jump ship since Andy bought the property in late 2008.

So Andy decided to close the Kirkfieldbank business — which he has completely refurbished including the famous restoration of an Alasdair Gray mural — in just over two weeks time.

"Deciding to close on May 14 was a difficult decision," Andy said.

"But it's just not viable for me to keep going, given the number of chefs we're going through.

"Although I'm angry with previous chefs for leaving, I'm not angry with Paul because he's a good-natured guy who told me that he'd kick himself if he didn't take this chance to move on.

"The decision to close is nothing to do with a lack of customer numbers.

"It's the fact that losing chefs is commercially restrictive for us. We feel as if we're a training centre for chefs."

Andy has instructed the Glasgow office of leading licensed business agents, Christie + Co, to sell the Riverside Bar and Restaurant for offers over 250,000.

The property hit the headlines when, during its refurbishment, a stunning wall-length mural by renowned Scottish author and artist Alasdair Gray was found, hidden beneath many layers of wallpaper.
