Reaction to Overburns outrage

CONDEMNATION has greeted Patersons’ decision to take its Overburns Farm fight to the Court of Session.
In January, Scottish Government Reporter David Buylla upheld South Lanarkshire Council’s decision to deny Patersons planning permission to construct a sand and gravel quarry at the site, near Biggar.
This followed a campaign by local residents and the Clyde River Action Group (CRAG) which began back in 2009.
And with Patersons now taking the issue through the courts, the Overburns fight is far from over.
CRAG chairwoman Caroline Parker said: “Patersons democratically have the right to go to the Court of Session. However, they have to face reality.
“Their application has been refused three times for a variety of different reasons.”
Patersons’ decision to appeal the Reporter’s decision has angered green activists and local politicians alike.
