RURAL Clydesdale MP David Mundell has welcomed new rules which could help Clydesdale farmers who are struggling to cope with flooded fields.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has announced new dredging arrangements which will allow farmers to help prevent valuable fields from being flooded. Scotland’s farming leaders have been pressing for changes to the rules for two years.

David said: “As the new policy is rolled out and implemented, I am hopeful that local farmers will see a real difference.”

Dunsyre farmer, and former councillor, Alex Allison, told the Gazette that he was glad the measure had been taken sooner rather than later.
