New homes to be built at Carluke brickworks site

Abandoned site...will now be the site of more than 100 new homes

Abandoned site...will now be the site of more than 100 new homes

THE final chapter in the long history of Carluke’s brickworks is about to end with proposals to build 117 new homes on the site of the former Mayfield works in Wilton Road.

C A planning application to create the new estate on what was once the town’s main industrial site has been lodged with South Lanarkshire Council.

A decision on whether or not to allow the development to go ahead is expected within a few months.

If the scheme is given the go-ahead by councillors, it will finally bring to an end the long history of brickmaking in Carluke and finally wipe away any hopes that a new brickworks would be built on the site.

The application to build 117 new houses on the redundant site has been made to the council by Persimmon Homes Ltd, in association with another, smaller developer, Achadon Properties Ltd.
