Meet Clydesdale's China Dolls!

IT MAY be one of the seven wonders of the world but for 10 local women the Great Wall of China holds no fear.

The girls, dubbed the China Dolls, are in training to walk the Great Wall in October.

Raising money for six chairites along the way, it is sure to be an emotional journey for them all.

Kate Williamson was diagnosed with cancer five years ago.

Since then she has climbed the Himalayas raising 28,000 for Maggies Cancer Caring Centres.

She said: "I suggested it to one of my friends and it snowballed from there. We are all doing it for different charities and our aim is to raise a total of 30,000."

Kate will be joined by Hayley Griffin, Kirsty Howieson, Lynn Gibson, Shona Thorpe, Ruth Cartwright, Laura and Ruth Thomson, Ashley Goodfellow and Christine Riddoch.

They will be setting off on October 17 to tackle the Great Wall. But before that there is more fundraising to be done.

On April 14 Sheila Conn Ladies Fashion in Biggar will host a fundraising fashion show. A Ballgowns and Bacon Rolls fundraiser will be held at Lanark Auction Market in May and Mamma Mia and Grease sing-a-long events in The Vogue in July and August respectively.

Little Haven, the Willow Foundation, Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, Garvald in West Linton, Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and Contact the Elderly Scotland will all benefit from the trek.
