HOPE springs eternal that employment levels in Law can be boosted, just three months after the village suffered 13 job losses with the closure of the Verve Car Body Shop.

Councillors have recommended to the Scottish Government that Law gains ‘assisted area status’, meaning businesses are offered regional aid grants under European Commission state aid rules.

Law-based SNP Councillor Pat Lee said: “We were never in a position to help local business development but, hopefully, that is about to change.

“We’d like to work on behalf of businesses already in the village and encourage people to set up business in Law.”
