Lanimer Ball and Cornet's Ride-Out 2009

LANIMER Queen-elect Taylor Forrest enjoyed her starring role in this year's Lanimer Ball on Tuesday.

Looking stunning in a fuschia pink ballgown, the 12-year-old performed her role perfectly, as did champion Lee Morrison - who also looked resplendent in his kilt.

Lanimer Week celebrations continued on Wednesday when Lord Cornet Kenneth Lean led 57 riders from Lanark Cross on the official Ride-Out.

They were seen off up the High Street by Lanimer Chairman David Strachan, and their route then took them via the Golf Course, on to Lanark Racecourse where the traditional races were held, down to check the March Stone at Robiesland and then on to New Lanark.

Crowds gathered there to watch the Lord Cornet ride in to the main street holding the Burgh Standard.

Pauline Matheson, Community Council Chairman, welcomed them to the village.

And she had a special welcome for Taylor Forrest, presenting her with a Loving Cup as a gift from the village.

Prizes and certificates were also presented to the race winners at New Lanark.

For all the information on these events, and Lanimer Day itself, don't miss next week's Lanark Gazette which is in the shops on Wednesday, June 17.

All of the pictures featured in our slideshow, by Gazette photographer Lindsay Addison, are available to purchase now - priced just 5 each.
