YOU collect a lot of friends over a century, as Lanark’s Nan Henderson found out on Sunday when her very public 100th birthday party was held at the town’s St Mary’s Clubrooms.
Apart from many members of her family, a lot of pals and former workmates went along to wish her all the best on achieving this life milestone.
Still as sharp as a pin, Nan personally read out to the company the contents of the traditional letter from the Queen, obviously chuffed at the honour.
Members of her family had arranged a few surprises for the day, one of her grandsons even compiling a beautifully produced logbook detailing the major events of the year in which she was born, 1914. One of Nan’s great-granddaughters, Emily, handed her a bouquet of flowers on the family’s behalf.
