Lanark Het Pint 2013 Slideshow

LANARK welcomed in 2013 on Tuesday with one of its “quirky” traditions – the Het Pint.

Originally set up as a bequest to support scholars 350 years ago, it changed to offer a pint of hot mulled ale to the Burgh’s poor and needy on New Year’s morning.

And in recent decades, under the Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council, it has offered a crisp £1 note to pensioner claimants on New Year’s Day, and a chance for everyone to drink a toast to the burgh in hot mulled wine.

Chairman Frank Gunning led the toast at the event, after which 27 pensioners lined up to claim their Het Pint £1 for 2013.
