THERE has been a blow for those fighting the plan to extend quarrying in the countryside between Lanark and New Lanark with the news that two important national organisations are NOT backing their campaign.

And even long-awaited expected support from the New Lanark Trust is not as wholehearted as the Save Our Landscape (SOL) campaigners might have wished.

As reported previously, SOL was formed last year after it was learned that Cemex, the company operating Hyndford Quarry on the edge of Lanark, wanted to expand its operations further down towards the Clyde.

For more information on this story, pick up a copy of this week’s Carluke and Lanark Gazette which is in the shops now.
