Female council employees could receive share in £200 million ‘back pay’

HUNDREDS of Clydesdale women who are, or were, council employees could soon be in for a share of a massive £200 million in ‘back pay’.
However, if they do get this payout it could spark a financial crisis, with South Lanarkshire Council losing almost a third of its entire annual budget in one fell swoop.
An employment tribunal will shortly issue its findings, following a marathon two-year hearing during which it heard claims that the council had unfairly underpaid female employees in comparison to its male workers for years and these women, of whom there are thought to be over 200 in Clydesdale, should be due ‘back pay’ to compensate them.
