Early end to pharmacy in Carstairs service row
Carstairs Surgery Staff Carstairs Village 13/2/12
DIRE predictions over the fate of a village’s medical service have come true – sooner than expected.
Barely six months after NHS Lanarkshire controversially gave the go-ahead for a private pharmacy to open in Carstairs, the GP-run dispensary which served the needs of villagers for decades is to close down.

Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 01:18 PMCarstairs Village Surgery The closure of the Dispensary . I Along with 1000s of local residents are disgusted, it beggars belief . Surely common sense must prevail or NHS reforms!. I find it very difficult to understand as to how and why this can happen. Well maybe not---- GREED. The company running the new unwanted dispensary are not interested in the well being of the generations of families in the community Families who have been faithfully served by the Doctors and their LOCALLY EMPLOYED staff which cares for them.Or the staff who will lose their jobs ,That may include the Practice Nurse whose position is partly funded by monies from the practice dispensary. For some patients, No pick me up is better than a smiling face and a wee gossip about the local going ons, especially when you live alone. We shouldn't forget that the Old sweet shop Turned dispensary is leased from a local businessman, whom the community supported financially for many years and still do. Yes GREED INDEED is a blight on us all. PS. Just a wee note to finish. As Secretary of State for Health Aneurin Bevin was a life long champion of social justice and the rights of working people. On July 5th 1948, The Beveridge report came to fruition and Bevin unveiled the National Health Service with these words. WE NOW HAVE THE MORAL LEADERSHIP OF THE WORLD. Wonder what they would think now (GREED INDEED)
