THE battle may have been won but the fight continues - that’s the view of Dovesdale Action Group chairman Gareth Jones as thousands of locals celebrated the news that the dreaded Dovesdale Incinerator is no more.

Scotgen’s inability to answer all 44 of the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency’s questions regarding its plans saw the application for a Pollution, Prevention and Control Licence (PPC) withdrawn by the company.

Gareth and the other members of the group were actually in the midst of a meeting when the news came through.

He said: “We carried on the meeting because the fight is definitely not over. We need to find out what happens now as the council has still given planning permission on that site.

“It feels like we and the thousands of people who objected to the plans have been vindicated.

“The local community are the real winners; this has shown what can be done when people come together.

“Everyone who has contributed to this fight has made a real difference.”
