Forty years ago, when Scotland could produce all its own tomatoes, the Clydeside was lined with glasshouses and its tomatoes were renowned for their texture and flavour.

But competition from foreign growers, particularly the Dutch, undermined the industry, until only a handful of growers were left.

Jim and Liz Craig of J&M Craig of Briarneuk – a busines founded by his grandfather over a century ago – went into semi-retirement in 2011.
