Crowds bask in sun for Spring event

Town welcomes beginning of new season

CARLUKE Development Trust's Spring in Carluke event was blessed with some beautiful weather on Saturday.

Crowds basked in the warm sunshine and listened to local performers as the town welcomed the beginning of the new spring season.

The event was held almost a year to the day that the new streetscape project was unveiled when a snow blizzard enveloped the town just half an hour before the opening.

But Saturday's glorious weather only added to the fun atmosphere, members of the Trust said this week

Mirka Ryjackova, Carluke Development Trust's development officer, said: "The event went really well and I think we managed to provide something for everyone.

"The Clyde Valley Pipe Band started off the event with loads of energy and colour. Both Claire Arnott and Steven Rodger gave brilliant and professional performances.

"Jazz in the afternoon was just perfect as many adults, young people and children (including very small ones) were sitting down, relaxing and enjoying the music as the world passed by.

"The weather was definitely on our side that day and I believe the majority of people present experienced something very special.

"Radio Station L107 did a great job in keeping the public interest going throughout the day.''

Community groups such as Clydesdale Arthritis Support, Girls' Brigade and Boys' Brigade took the opportunity of informing the public about their plans and activities.

The Trust would like to thank South Lanarkshire Council for covering the cost of the stage and promotion. Mirka added: ''We are very grateful to everyone who gave up their time for free last Saturday and entertained the public."
