New Hallbarr Gardens sign Braidwood 12/2/13

IT’S a surefire ‘sign’ that South Lanarkshire Council pays heed to the Gazette – local authority workmen have replaced two misspelt signs in Braidwood’s Hallbar Gardens.

The intervention came following a report in last week’s Gazette outlining villagers’ astonishment that two signs erected by council workers in the street on Friday, February 1, had the incorrect spelling, ‘Hall Barr Gardens’.

A 45-year-old local woman told us that wasting money on “stupid things” like the signs hadn’t portrayed the council in the best light; hundreds of Braidwood Primary pupils walk past the signs every day so they had hardly represented the ethos of teaching pupils the importance of spelling correctly.

For more information on this story, pick up a copy of this week’s Carluke and Lanark Gazette which is in the shops now.
