IMPROVEMENTS to Carluke’s rundown High Mill moved a step closer this week with funding now being granted for an options appraisal of the project.

The High Mill Steering Group, formed by locals concerned about the state of the 18th century A-Listed building, has received the five figure sum in grants from the Architectural Heritage Fund, South Lanarkshire Renewable Energy Fund and South Lanarkshire Leader Fund.

The funding will enable the Group, working together with Strathclyde Building Preservation Trust, to put together an action plan on the best way forward for the High Mill.

A Steering Group member also stated that the Group will be in contact with members of the local community for further ideas and suggestions on the best future use of the iconic structure within the town.
