A HAIR-brained scheme between two pals to raise money for charity by growing beards is finally over and a winner has been declared.

The pair decided to grow beards and keep growing them until one of them quit.

However, both men realised that neither of them was going to capitulate into a shaving surrender quickly so they decided to raise money for charity.

The challenge, dubbed The Great British Beard Off, certainly caught the imagination of many and soon their Just Giving page, to raise cash for Cancer Research UK, was racking up donations from all across Clydesdale and beyond.

However, all good things have to come to an end and after more than five months, it was Stephen who cracked first and shaved - but not before more than £1,600 was raised for the charity.
