Well-known Lanark composer Janet Beat has achieved a ‘first’ in her field of music.

She is the first Scottish composer to win a prize in the prestigious international composition competition in Germany for a wind quintet in connection with Furore Verklag, Kassel and the Mariann-Steegmann Foundation.

The prize includes the release of Janet’s prize-winning composition on CD.

The public premiere will take place on a date in 2016 yet to be announced and it will be performed by advanced students of the Hochschule fur Musik in Nuremberg. The prizewinning quintet work Atelier is 20 minutes long.
