Alexander William Bertram from Forth has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours for services to psychiatric care. He is a rehabilitation instructor at Carstairs State Hospital.
“It is a good start to the year!” said Alex (59), who hopes to take his sisters with him to receive his award.
He has been working at the hospital for around 30 years and enjoys his work, but he is also looking forward to retiring in August.
He is a keen gardener and baker, known for the cakes he makes for his colleagues.
