THREE fire engines, one from Lesmahagow, were sent to a family home in Lanark on Sunday morning when fire was discovered in the roof space of the building, in Park Place on the main road.

The alarm was raised at 9.35am, and the first fire engine was on the scene in three minutes,

“On arrival they found a well developed fire within the roof space,” said a spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“A team of four firefighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and successfully brought the fire under control.”

Once the fire was out they carried out further checks, and were able to return the house to the owners by 1.15pm.
