NEW head teacher Andy Smith has enjoyed his first two months at the helm at Carluke High School.

Andy (45) took over in early September, moving from his post as Rector of Perth Academy after four years.

Living in Lanark with wife Annie and their four children, he was delighted to take on a role a little closer to home.

He said: “I loved my job in Perth but it was a one and a half hour drive there and back every day so when the chance came up to go to Carluke, I couldn’t say no.

“A 12 minute drive – that’s a big difference!”

His main challenge now is to keep up the good work done by his predecessors and take Carluke High to greater heights.

Andy said: “Everyone knows each other and cares about each other. That is a great starting point to build on.

“I want the staff to enjoy coming to their work and I want the pupils to enjoy coming to school.”
