AFTER much deliberation, and some argument, the winners of the Carluke and Lanark Gazette and Clydesdale Camera Club 2013 photo contest can now be revealed.

The overall spoils went to Donald Thompson for his stunning shot of Douglas Pond, taken in autumn last year.

It perfectly depicts the changing season and will take pride of place on the front cover of the 2014 Carluke and Lanark Gazette calendar.

Narrowly pipped at the post were Ginger Bee by Stuart Delaney, of Carluke, and John, a portrait by Hamilton man Bobby Gavin of his son John.

Our overall winner and runners-up were revealed at the Lanarkshire Photographic Expo at Lanark Agricultural Centre on Sunday.

And a clearly overwhelmed Donald was delighted. The 61-year-old retired engineer, from Carstairs Village, won a framed print of his picture and a six month Gazette subscription.

He said: “This has come as a bit of a surprise to me. I only took photography up as a hobby five years ago so I wasn’t expecting to win.

“I was delighted – once I got over the initial shock!”
