Crawford Gala Day 2015 Slideshow

THE village of Crawford is celebrating the success of its latest annual week of special events and entertainment, climaxing with gala day.

Judging the best decorated houses and best floats and entries in the gala parade was the first task on the big day.

The Alice in Wonderland decorated house of Gala Queen Shannon Soanes won the Best House prize.

Best Adult Fancy Dress was The Minions; Best Toddler was Ellie as Little Miss Muffet; Best Float was a tie between Eddie Stobbart and Little Miss Muffet; Best Primary School Entry was Cat in the Hat; and Best Teen entry was One Direction, Nadia and Alison.

The procession headed through the village to the crowning ceremony, which saw Kathleen Fleming crown Shannon as her courtiers – champion Archie Damer, flower girl Carmo Monteiro and page boy Jack Taylor – looked on.

This was followed by the prize giving ceremony and the afternoon field events, villagers taking part in contests which ranged from pillow fights to tug o’ war.

That evening all generations of villagers gathered back at the village hall for a family night which featured a disco, live music and games well into the night.

The fun wasn’t over yet as, on Sunday, gala week rounded off with what has become the traditional annual Crawford Duck Race, a good crowd turning out to cheer on the runners.

Crawford Gala Committee chair Mary Renwick praised her fellow villagers in joining up to make the event a success.

She said: “I’d like to say a personal word of thanks to everybody who, in any way, supported the gala week.

“Its success was down to them and ensured that this annual celebration will carry on.

“We are already getting planning underway for Crawford Gala 2016!”

Freelance photographer Sarah Peters was on hand to capture the action and her pictures are featured in our slideshow, created by Johnston Press Scotland communities hub deputy editor Julie Currie. Enjoy!
