LAW-based SNP Councillor Pat Lee was stunned at being asked to hand over a ‘missing’ batch of 350 unused independence referendum ballot papers and voting forms to police.

Councillor Lee – who duly delivered the documents to Dalkeith Police Station on Saturday – said it was shocking that the supposedly private papers had been discovered next to a bin in the East Lothian area last month.

“These papers should have been under lock and key,” Pat said.
