TWO green-minded young people from Biggar are organising a springtime community litter pick in the town this Saturday, March 24.

Friends Evie Cockburn (11) and Eilidh Fraser (12) were motivated to organise the clean up after visiting other towns where they saw hardly any litter.

As they put it, “We know that Biggar town centre and the Burnbraes Park are litter picked by Council workers every day, but it’s a thankless task in many ways as people just go and litter it again.

“Some litter gets blown into places where it’s harder to clear up, and the council is not responsible for cleaning up other people’s ground.

“Litter can be a hazard to animals and young children as well as being an eyesore.”
