The World Gold Panning Championships were held in Wanlockhead in 1992 and ever since that date the Scottish and British Championships have been staged as an annual event at the Museum of Lead Mining in the village.

This year was no exception with the Championships being organised by the British Gold Panning Association.

There are numerous competitions with categories split into Open Championships, Veterans and Juniors.
