CARLUKE Development Trust is urging Carluke residents to get creative and suggest ways to improve the entrances and exits of the town.
Blue signs reading Welcome to Carluke greet visitors and residents as they come in and out of the area.
But the
Development Trust is hoping to improve on that and are looking for the public's ideas.
Mirka Ryjackova, the Trust's development officer, told the Gazette that Carluke deserves more than just run-of-the-mill signs.
She said: "At the moment when people drive into Carluke, they see a 30-miles-an-hour limit sign and Welcome to Carluke but we want to go beyond that.
"This project is about designing and creating something that can be placed next to the signs at the entry points to Carluke.
"Carluke is special and the consultation into the Gateway's project is really to discuss ways of creating better, more attractive Gateways or entry points to Carluke.
"It's all about having pride in your town so that when visitors come to Carluke, the gateways will give them a very warm welcome."
It is hoped that next Tuesday's consultation into the project will draw out the ideas of the Carluke people, and will hopefully lead to the basic design of inspirational welcome signs.
Mirka said: "We're hoping that there is going to be a few public consultations so people don't need to worry if they miss the first one."
After the Trust has gauged the public's opinion, it will then start to look at the creative process and the funding to make the Gateways project a reality.
Mirka said: "This is a project that the Trust has been wanting to do since it was first established so it's important to a lot of the members.
"We've decided to base it on a similar project which has taken place in Carnwath.
"Carnwath has done an excellent job of securing funding and designing new and attractive signs for the village."
The Carluke consultation will be held on Tuesday, May 22 in Carluke Community Centre at 7.15pm.
Mirka added: "Absolutely everyone is invited."
