FOR the first time in seven years it rained on Crawford Gala Day.

But a couple of heavy showers on Saturday afternoon did not dampen the spirits of Crawford residents.

Depute Provost Beith Forrest carried out the duty of MC for the crowning ceremony.

He introduced the gala court: Queen Louise Bell, champion Colum Quinn, flower girl Chiara Janse Van Rensberg, page boy Sean Prentice and crowning lady Mrs Netta Wight.

Gala Committee chairwoman Molly Wilkinson thanked the court for performing so well on the day, Netta Wight for being a gracious crowning lady, Depute Provost and Mrs Forrest for judging the
decorated houses and fancy dress, Ken Thomson and Eric Clark for providing the transport for the court, Ronald Thomson for providing the transport for the crowning lady, Coalburn Pipe Band for leading the procession and committee members for their tremendous efforts and all their hard work.

She also thanks all the other members of the community who helped to set up the field and hall, made sandwiches for events during the week, ran competitions, helped with the bingo, those who donated prizes and money to boost the fund and, finally, all those who attended the events and entered the competitions in good spirit.
