IN an age when marriage break-ups are 10-a-penny, the Gazette is delighted to report the continued wedded bliss of a couple who tied the knot a whopping 70 years ago!

James and Cathy Ferguson, who are both 96, celebrated their Platinum Wedding at a party with fellow residents and staff at Lesmahagow’s Auchlochan Care Home.

They received a congratulatory card from The Queen, a bottle of Provost Whisky in a velvet pouch, a commemorative plaque from South Lanarkshire Council, silver photo frame and three floral bouquets.

James and Cathy, who originally come from Falkirk, wed in the town’s Grahamston Parish Church on March 23, 1943. They lived in High Bonnybridge during their married life before moving to Larbert. The couple, who never had children, have stayed at Auchlochan since June 2011.
